Rewriting & Re-editing Works

The Soundwalk  The road I have been lived by for three years is a quiet way. Not so many cars, not so many people. But if you walk straight for 10 more minutes, you can see a lively and beautiful park in there ------ The Kissena Park. And, I go there almost every weekend.  A Sunday. At 10 o’clock, I wear my casual shoes to walk to the park. It’s a sunny day. Even though there are not so many cars pass through, as usual, there are few people on the sidewalk. A jogging man breathes heavily pass me by. His steps and his breath sound rhythmic. He should jog every day I guess. I keep walking. I hear a dog barking. I see a girl and her dog Schnauzer behind me. According to the bell’s sound, the dog should be so happy about hanging out with that girl. Although I am in front of them, I know they are “following” me (they are going to go to the park also.) because the bell’s sound and its steps sound so funny. Then, at the crossroad, there is a car is waiting for a woman pushin...

The Analysis of the Movie’s Clip

This is a short film clip from the movie “Paths of the Soul” (or “Kang rinpoche”) directed by Yang Zhang. It shows how the pilgrims do their worships. In this clip’s 1 to 43 seconds, there are 10 shots. In the 1 st to 3 rd shot, the director uses the high angle to record the pilgrims. Through the mountains, we can see the people gradually. To link to the 4 th shot, the director used the close-up shot to record the pilgrim’s actions from the ground. In the 5 th shot, the director shows their prayer wheels in a close-up shot because the prayer wheel is the most representative thing for the pilgrims in their religious culture. Next, in the 6 th shot, it’s a shot from the ground which shows every pilgrim doing their worships through the same process. Unlike the 6 th shot shows some pilgrims, in the 7 th shot, the director focuses on two persons who have the different actions. The young girl is worshiping, another is lying on the ground. Also, through this frame, we can see that there is ...

The Tour in the Museum of the Moving Image

In this tour, I learned a lot of the new things and what I am most interested in is the special effects makeup technology. I saw a lot of the samples about makeup. For example, the masks, the wig, and some molds. What’s more, the tour guide told us that’s the real thing from the movies. I even saw the wig of the main actor from the movie “Taxi Driver” which was like a line in the middle on the character’s head. That’s so cool in that times I thought! You know, before I went the museum, I thought that those characters who weren’t like the normal human were made from the computers, but now I realize they are real. They could be touched physically. I am surprised. In there, I learned that for a special effects makeup, it might take almost the whole day to make up for a person. Such as, first, to put the mold and wig on the person. Then, to make up by some people hand by hand. It’s very in detail. Whether the quality or the color must be matched. And, for most movies which need the specia...

HK/NY HOME

On April 5th Hunter College and Hong Kong Baptist University had a film exchange conference. Both of schools presented some excellent short films to discuss how we see our home. Through those films, I see the same perspectives and the different perspectives. For the same perspective, in the films “Can’t Shake Us” and “Yellowing”, both of them showed that when people get a hard time, how they treated and got over the dilemmas. Even though the situations were different, but both of them were brave to live as what they want. They did not give in to the dilemmas. The films got through the different perspectives to present the same concept. Therefore, film is called “the universal language”. On the other hand, for the different perspectives, in the films “Chula: With Invisible Strings” and “Lucky”, both of them described a person’s life. “Chula: With Invisible Strings” focused on the character’s movement and behavior, and “Lucky” focused on the character’s mental activi...
